Seoraksan National Park

Hiking Seoraksan at 3 in the morning for sunrise with 50 million other Koreans was quite an experience. Seoraksan is the third highest mountain in South Korea at 5,600ft. We left Seoul Friday night at around 11:30 to take a 4 hour bus ride to the base of the mountain. We started just a little after 3am and it would take us 3 1/2 hours to get to the summit. It was insane because I have never hiked with so many other hikers before. There were so many hikers that would cause traffic jam. It was like traffic hours on the highway back home. Stop and go, stop and go, stop and go. After awhile it just felt like we are prisoners of war marching towards a refugee camp. It was ridiculous. It didn't help we went during foliage season ether. Anyhow, it view was still amazing. I understand why it is such a popular hike even at 3 in the morning.

We watched the sunrise and cont. our hike. It would take us an additional 7 hours to reach to the bottom. I was exhausted since I have not done any extreme physical activity for a long while. Hiking nearly 10 miles all of a sudden didn't help at all but it was worth it.

Heading to Jeju Island in a couple of days and the highest mountain in South Korea is there so will probably hike that bad boy. Might as well.

I took the valley course. I would have died if I took the Dinosaur Ridge.

3am. Getting ready.
