Sorry to say, but I really like the GoPro
When I was traveling last year, I carried my precious Nikon D90 DLSR camera with an awesome 16mm-85mm wide lens. I took thousands of amazing pictures with it. However, I've come to realize that I also really enjoy traveling light. Even though it took pictures that a normal point and shoot camera could not, I no longer want to carry the weight with me. There were times that the DSLR took up so much space in my backpack and added a few extra pounds on it. It doesn't sound much, but it is a lot of weight for a person traveling long term. I ended up selling it on Craigslist once I got back to Boston. I've been happily using my Nikon waterproof point and shoot since.
A few months have gone by, a man will get bored and sooner or later will look for a new toy. For the past couple of months, I've been trying to find a good deal on an action cam. Hong Kong is not the best place to buy them since these products have to be imported from the states. The GoPro sells for an additional $50 to $80usd in Hong Kong. I wasn't going to jump on that.
A friend of mine told me about this website DCfever.com. It's the Craigslist in Hong Kong, where second hand products are sold. I've contacted a few sellers, but couldn't agree on a price. Until last week, I contacted a seller who is selling his GoPro 2 for only $1000HKD ($130usd just about). Now for me, I don't really care if it's a two year old GoPro. I'm not a professional so I don't need top of the line stuff to work with. As far as I'm concern, the GoPro 2 still records really sharp images. So I jumped on that deal right away, and talked to down to $800HKD ($100usd). AWESOME!!!! I couldn't be happier with that deal.
Since last week, I've been playing and having lots of fun trying to be creative with it. Here is the first video I edited. My friend Kevin and I went out climbing on Tung Lung Island just yesterday. Don't forget to watch it in 1080p!!!
